Speaking at the GIANTS AFL Grand Final Lunch at the Star in front of more than 750 people, Carey says if 20-year old Cameron avoids injuries and suspensions, he has unlimited potential.

“We may very well be seeing the best centre half forward that’s ever played the game,” said Carey.

“He’s got a long way to go but he’s certainly on the right track.”

Cameron had a standout season, finishing third in the Coleman Medal kicking 62 goals, winning the Kevin Sheedy Medal as the GIANTS Club Champion and becoming the first GIANTS player named in the All Australian team.

Carey led the Kangaroos to two premierships in the 1990s and believes Cameron is the full package.

“He picks things up very well, he’s quick, he’s good overhead, and what I love about him is that he’s not a one trick pony.

“He’s a very good mark, if he gets a little bit better below his knees, he could basically be a ruck rover at centre half forward at 6’ 5” which is almost unstoppable,” he said.

Carey’s thoughts were echoed by five-time premiership forward Dermott Brereton who’s worked closely with a number of the GIANTS talls in a mentoring role.

“He’s a ripping kid. His ability to hear something, absorb it, learns and put it into practice, he just does it. You don’t have to run through it with him,” said Brereton.

“Jeremy Cameron, a 6’ 5” young man with footballing nouse and talent, has great movement, has great coverage over the ground.

“That package is very rare. Keep working hard keep doing the right things, this kid is going to be extraordinary,” he said.
