Book review: Fox Swift

by Nick Hooker, 11 years old

This book is about an 11year old football player who moves to the country town of Davinal. He ends up playing for the Davinal Diggers, who are not the best football team in town.

He discovers that many of them can’t kick a drop punt, can’t mark, can’t tackle and need a lot of work and effort.

The first coach, Mr Percy is a giant vegetable-growing and loving man who doesn’t really believe in his team. When he gets invited to go into the city, a legendary player, Greg Scott, takes over and does proper training and practice.

Fox Swift changes the club around by motivating the players and being a good captain and leader around the club. He also organizes the renovation of the oval and clubhouse.

The Davinal Diggers end up winning the premiership with hard work and getting healthy diet tips and training ideas from Cyril Rioli.

I really loved this book because it is well written and very enjoyable to read. It’s not just about AFL, it’s about team work and if you really put your mind to something, it can happen.

I would really recommend it and give it a five star rating!!!
