Bolton praises TAC Cup pathway

The Canberra product, and Sydney Swans premiership star, said there was a chance the Rams could return to the highly successful model that not only produced Bolton but Mark McVeigh, Nick Davis and Lenny Hayes in the same year.


The Rams will play seven games in the TAC Cup this season, with Queensland and Tasmania also involved, and the AFL will reassess the involvement at the end of the year.


It is not a full return to the old system, which ran from 1996 to 2002, where the Rams played in the elite Victorian league every week and the players relocated to Canberra to be closer to the Australian Institute of Sport.


The non-Canberrans studied at Erindale College and were billeted out to host families.


A raft of players were drafted from the Rams but the scheme ended because of its cost.
