Balmain Dockers’ big match
The Balmain Dockers Women’s Football Club has had a taste of the big time playing a curtain-raiser match against Swan Districts at Subiaco Oval on August 1.
It was a fantastic opportunity for the women from Balmain to test their skills against their cross-country rivals and experience the thrill and excitement of running out into a packed stadium.
With the Fremantle Dockers playing West Coast Eagles there was no bigger occasion to play a curtain-raiser match in Perth than the biggest fixture of the year.
In a tight contest, it was the Swan Districts which got over the line, defeating the Dockers 8.4.52 to 5.7.35.
The club was able to raise $20,000 through sponsorship and fundraising activities to fly the team over to Perth to play in the match.
The Balmain Dockers are a partner club of the Fremantle Football Club and have built a strong relationship over three years with their community development team.
With the support of Fremantle FC, the Balmain Dockers have been able to grow year by year both on and off the football field.
