Auskickin’ Around at Westbrook Gala Day

On a brisk Sunday morning (June 27), over 200 Auskickers, aged from four to eight years old, from the North West region gathered to participate in a Gala Day at Mike Kenny Oval, Cherrybrook – home of the mighty Westbrook Bulldogs.

The day started with a few warm-up activities before the siren sounded, signaling the commencement of a host of games, played over five fields. In their first inter-club football experience for the year, our youngest footballers, representing Baulkham Hills Hawks, Hornsby-Berowra Eagles, Kellyville Magpies, North Ryde Dockers, Pennant Hills Demons and of course, the home team, Westbrook Bulldogs, began to demonstrate their newly developed skills.

While no scores were kept, the excitement demonstrated by the Auskickers when they kicked a goal or took a mark clearly demonstrated that everyone was a winner on the day. After three rounds of games, the smiles on the players’ faces grew wider when they ran through an obstacle course.

In line with the Auskick ethos, the day was played in great spirit, with the focus not on competition but on teamwork and having fun. Thanks must go to all of the Auskick coordinators and coaches, umpires and of course Westbrook’s Auskick coordinator, Paul Vink, who put in hours of work planning and coordinating the carnival.

The next outing for these Auskickers sees Hornsby hosting a Gala Day on Sunday, 1st of August at Rofe Park.
