AIME Day at Drummoyne

Sydney University hosts Queensland’s Aspley Hornets at 10:30am to kick of the football action, before the Swans’ NEAFL side clashes with NT Thunder, in a tantalising top-of-the-table meeting at 2pm.

Sydney University currently sits sixth on the NEAFL standings, one spot ahead of Aspley, while the Thunder is in first position with the Swans nipping at their heels.

A crop of Sydney Swans senior stars are set to attend the game, but they won’t be the only familiar faces at Drummoyne.

A host of household names will be in action across the day, including the likes of Alwyn Davey, Liam Patrick, Robert Copeland, Eddie Sansbury, Will Sierakowski, Matt O’Dwyer, Ryan O’Keefe and Lewis Roberts-Thomson.

In line with the AFL’s national Indigenous Round, there will be a welcome to country ceremony before the first bounce of the Students and Hornets match, with a formal presentation, including the announcement of the best player afield and an interview with either Sydney Swans star Lewis or NT Thunder coach Xavier Clarke.

Earlier this month Sydney University Australian National Football Club announced a three year charity partnership with Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME), and Saturday’s event will be the first time the two organisations have joined forces on a large scale.

AIME is a dynamic educational program with a proven record of supporting Indigenous students through high school and into university, employment or further education at the same rate as all Australian students.

AIME aims to provide Indigenous students with the skills, opportunities, belief and confidence to grow and succeed.
