AFL Stars Raise Thousands

The annual George Maher and Hamish Howard Remembrance Golf Day was held in Wagga on Friday November 15th, with more than $10,000 raised.

Breust, Suckling, and Cunningham – all New South Wales juniors – took to the fairways for the second consecutive year, proving their talents extend beyond football, placing third as a team in the sold out event.

The day honours the memory of two babies who were born seriously unwell and ultimately passed away in Sydney Neonatal Intensive Care units, leaving behind loving fathers in Jarrod Maher and Ben Howard, who incited the fundraising initiative as a tribute to their respective sons’ lives.

Pillars of Strength provides support to fathers with sick children, and assists bereaved Dads after the loss of their child.

The Pillars of Strength support programs currently operate out of five hospitals across Sydney/ACT, providing acommodation, food and fuel assistance, a parking program, and the opportunity for fathers to attend sporting activities, including AFL games.

All money raised will be funnelled directly into Pillars of Strength’s ‘Time Out’ and ‘In Hospital’ support programs,  and there’s no doubt the charity – and its flagship golf day – will continue to grow.
