AFL NSW/ACT farewell Aliir Aliir

AFL NSW/ACT Multicultural Ambassador, Aliir Aliir, has joined Port Adelaide after a trade was completed with the Sydney Swans in exchange for Port’s future second-round draft pick.

The 26-year-old departs Sydney after 64 AFL games since being drafted at pick 44 in the 2013 National Draft from East Perth in the WAFL.

Born in a Kenyan refugee camp to Sudanese parents, Aliir moved to Australia at the age of eight, and since arriving at the Sydney Swans has been an inspiration to kids from diverse backgrounds across Australia.

Joining AFL NSW/ACT as a Multicultural Ambassador in 2016, Aliir has committed countless hours of support across a variety of diversity programs and projects, while also connecting people from multicultural backgrounds with the game of AFL.

“Aliir has inspired multicultural communities to get involved with AFL, his infectious smile and energy has made him a great role model for all,” said AFL NSW/ACT Multicultural and Inclusion Lead, Josh Rozairo.

“Aliir’s enthusiasm and willingness to stop and have a chat with supporters – particularly those from a diverse background – has put him in high regard with staff, players and supporters across the competition.

“AFL NSW/ACT is eternally grateful for what Aliir has done for our code in NSW and the ACT and wish him the very best with his career in South Australia.”
