AFL Clubs to draft NSW/ACT players

AFL (NSW/ACT) is pleased to announce that 11 NSW/ACT born players will be drafted by AFL clubs this year following Friday’s final AFL club list announcements.

As of 5pm Friday, October 29, five players will be drafted in either the NAB AFL Draft or NAB AFL Rookie Draft in November and December respectively. They will join the six NSW/ACT players who signed with Team GWS at various times throughout season 2010.

There is the possibility for more NSW/ACT players being drafted with a number of players nominating for the end of year drafts.

Jacob Townsend, Kurt Aylett, Sam Schulz, Anthony Miles, Mark Whiley and Josh Bruce will all be playing for Team GWS next season.

The 2010 Premier Collingwood will take highly-rated Wollondilly footballer Tom Young as a primary listed player. Tom has been on a NSW scholarship for the past two years, where he played for Collingwood’s VFL side.

Hawthorn will also be rookie-listing two New South Welshmen in Will Langford and Jack Mahony.

Will, the son of Hawthorn great Chris Langford, currently plays with Easts FC in Sydney. Displaying excellent athleticism, Will plays across half back or in the midfield and has an outstanding training ethic. Will represented NSW in the AFL Under 18 competition in 2009, but missed in 2010 due to injury and illness.

Taking the second Rookie spot alongside Will at the Hawks, Jack Mahony hails from Kiama, near Wollongong, and has been a most committed member of the Hawks’ scholarship program in NSW.

Jack has elite fitness and an impressive work rate, with the ability to play as a small defender or through the midfield. Jack is the product of the fast developing football framework in the Illawarra region of NSW.

While Adelaide will rookie-list Merimbula local Sam Martyn at the end of the season. Sam is a talented athlete who has only been playing AFL for three years but has excelled in that time.

St Kilda will also rookie-list NSW Scholarship Holder Jackson Ferguson.

AFL (NSW/ACT) would like to wish all players the very best of luck.
