LRT Bids Farewell to SCG Faithful

Roberts-Thomson, 30, who played 179 games for the Red and White, walked a lap of honour during half time of the Swans weekend fixture against the Saints, after he announced his retirement effective immediately last week.

“That was exceptional. I cannot believe amount of support that was here,” said Roberts-Thomson following his last lap of the SCG.

“Doing that lap, look it was pretty emotional I must say.”

Fans were seen wearing blonde wigs and holding up signs hailing the Swans cult figure, as a chant of “LRT” made its way around the ground.

Originally from Sydney Northern Beaches, Roberts-Thomson played less than 40 Australian Rules matches before being drafted to the Swans in 2001, after growing up playing Rugby Union.

For Roberts-Thomson, who was affectionately known to Swans fans as “Warrior” or “The Hyphenator”, the weekend was an emotional one.
“For me it was so good to get around and just to see all the supporters,” Roberts-Thomson said.

“There are no better supporters than what we’ve got here at the Swans, so we’re very lucky.”

“It was so surreal… to see fans out there dressed in blonde wigs, and there were a number of signs out there and everything like that, it was just amazing – that support.”

Roberts-Thomson finishes his career as a two-time premiership player (2005, 2012) with the Swans, along with a life membership of the club.
