Southern NSW players trial for State Zone

The top 250 talented Australian Football players from Southern NSW will travel to Tocumwal tomorrow for the Southern NSW Under 13 and Under 14 trials.

The five regions, Albury, Wagga, MIA/Northern Riverina, Broken Hill/Wentworth and Western Riverina have been training in their satellite centres for the past six weeks in preparation for the trials which will see the two age groups play at Tocumwal Sportsground on Friday, September 10.

As part of the AFL NSW/ACT Talented Player Program, all players will be under the watchful eye of selectors from all five regions as they strive to be chosen in their respective zone teams – the Rebels and Stingrays, to play in the Joss Under 13 and Under 14 State Zone Trials next month.

The carnival gives players the opportunity to play against the most talented footballers in their age group across the Southern NSW region.

The Zone teams, Rebels and Stingrays, will be announced on Monday, September 13 in both age divisions. Both zones will go on to represent Southern NSW at the Joss State Zone Trials in Albury in the October school holidays.

Southern NSW Talent Co-ordinator, Rebecca McGowan, congratulated all players that have made it through to this level.

“The players from the five regions have a great opportunity to play football at another level,” McGowan said.

“I’m sure the carnival will be a great success and the players participating whether they make the zone teams or not will be better off for the experience they receive on the weekend.”

“The coaches and volunteer staff that we have involved as part of the Talented Player Program should be commended on their professionalism and dedication to their roles.”
