St. Ignatius vs Trinity Year 5/6
Both teams started off very strong and displayed a willingness to play throughout all areas of the field even with the difficulty of slippery conditions due to a heavy presence of dew on the paddock.

Trinity showed much development in their individual skills and team cohesion as they were able to move the ball around fluently throughout the game.

St. Ignatius showed great skills in their forward line by kicking more goals than behinds and showed tremendous skills in defence and in the midfield to allow for their forwards to kick the goals.

In the end St. Ignatius were too strong and claimed victory over a determined Trinity side.

There were stand out plays from N. Nikiforidis (#7 T), M. McKenzie (#3 SIC), G. Willis (#1 T), C. Taylor (#39 SIC), J.McCullagh (#35 T) and T. Howard (#15 SIC) for their efforts throughout the whole game.

Knox vs Redlands Year 5/6

Again both teams arrived and played with full intensity from the first whistle.

The first quarter was very close highlighted through solid defence and strong contests for the ball.

Again the second quarter was very close, the only difference was Knox being unlucky to miss a few opportunities at goal while Redlands were able to put away their chances.

The second half opened up with Redlands displaying their high level of skills and finishing plays off.

This was accompanied by great plays through the centre and pockets with good running and ball awareness.

Knox were strong in their efforts during the third quarter and outscored their opponents in the final quarter.

Unfortunately for Knox, Redlands were ahead in the first three quarters thus winning the game.

Special mentions to L. Lamport (#9 RL), L. Vrcelj (#13 RL), R. Cochrane (#6 RL), D. Ravenhall (#4 K), J. Naganayagam (#16 K) and B. Wilson (#8 K).

Waverley vs St. Ignatius 2 (SIC2) Year 7/8

Game 3 saw Waverley take on St. Ignatius 2.

Both teams displayed high levels of talent and determination through the midfield.

Waverley came out strong in the first quarter and stamped an early dominance on St. Ignatius 2, characterised through accurate kicking from the forward line and flawless ball play through the middle.

Throughout the second quarter, SIC2 found their next gear and took it to a strong Waverley side and managed to score their first goal of the match, but it was the third quarter that SIC2 really fought hard and showed their determination in contesting the ball in all areas.

The final quarter was again a very close one with little separating both sides.

This quarter was full of great contested football with both teams giving it their all right to the end.

With Waverley’s dominance in the first quarter they were able to come away with the win.

Knox vs Shore Year 7/8

The second of the year 7/8 games was played between Knox and Shore.

Both teams came out strong and right from the first encounter it was evident it was going to be a close game, and the game didn’t disappoint.

There were just two points in it after the first quarter in Shore’s favour.

Shore got the upper hand in the second quarter through some accurate goal kicking and determined defence.

Shore came out strong after the half time break and using their strengths in the midfield were able to gain a good lead over their opponents.

Knox came out firing in the final quarter, convincingly winning the quarter but eventually came up four points short.

Knox in the last quarter showed great determination and grit to nearly pull off a magnificent comeback.

This was through tough defence and precise kicking up forward.

Knox (105) vs Cranbrook (23) Year 9/10

The final game of round 4 was between Knox and Cranbrook.

Both teams displayed a willingness to play all over the park.

Throughout the first quarter Knox stamped their dominance but Cranbrook put up a fight and showed great determination.

The second quarter proved to be much more of a competition through the middle although Knox managed to get some spectacular goals from the 50.

Knox held Cranbrook scoreless throughout the third quarter but the display of football didn’t reflect the score line.

Cranbrook contested in all aspects of the game through all areas of the oval.

Cranbrook managed to kick a few goals late in the fourth quarter but by then it was too late, they were beaten by a strong Knox outfit, but as mentioned showed great determination and never gave up the contest.

This game was a very physical game and both teams showed great sportsmanship throughout the game.

Mahoney Park, Marickville

St Aloysius 1 vs St Patricks Year 5/6

Best on ground for St Patricks was Tom Buchanan who played a strong role in defence and shadowed his opponent and was often in front of him throughout the match.

Patrick Chrystie proved that he is a strong mark and can capitalise in this part of the game, and he was rated second best on ground for Pats.

Alexander Falcone played a good captain’s game and was rated third best.

Others to shine for St Patricks included James Wigg, who tackled well in this match, Charles Lynch, and Joseph Sukkarjo, who went for some great runs along the wing.
 
St Aloysius comfortably won this match against St Patricks, yet on the scoreboard at half-time the outcome of the match was still debatable as they only had four goals on the board.

Aloys’s third quarter, however, was dominant as they kicked seven goals to open up a comfortable victory.

Michael Read was rated best on ground, as he contributed in defence and on the forward line.

Read is a good footballer who has good acceleration and makes repeat efforts.

Henry Cox and Pierce Cole also contributed strongly.

A player that has stood out throughout this season and played well consistently is Louis Pribula, who went for long runs, set up goals and has a neat left foot as well.

Goal scorers – Henry Inwood – 4 goals, Michael Read – 3 goals, James Larkey – 3 goals, Henry Cox – 2 goals, Pierce Cole, Louis Pribula, Ben Huntley and Ben Fletcher – 1 goal each.

Waverley Blue v Waverley Gold Year 5/6

What a match this one was, with two competitive teams evenly matched.

Goal scoring was pretty much neck and neck throughout the match, but Waverley Blue had a slightly better second quarter.

Best on ground for Waverley Blue was Matthew Higgins-Titsha who was nearly always in the right position and kicked with great skill throughout this match.

Jack Meagher, the Blues’s ruckman, rucked strongly all over the ground and was rated second best for the Blues.

Rex Crabb was gutsy, hard at the ball, had a couple of excellent smothers and did a good job tagging.

Jack Harris was fantastic, laying tackles, shepherding and chasing opponents down.

They say that football matches are won on defensive pressure and the one-percenters and Harris helped to prove this comment true, as he excelled in this aspect of the game.

Billy Cosgrove and Ryan Breslin rounded out the top six for this week for Waverley Blue.

Juay Kennedy was rated best on ground for Waverley Gold.

Strong in the air, confident and with a good kick as well, Juay also impacted on the scoreboard by kicking two goals.

Bowdine Reiners is a great overhead mark and has a long kick as well, so he was also amongst the best for Gold.

Barker v St Aloysius 2- Year 5/6

Barker

Oliver Calligaro is strong in the air and took two great contested marks in this match and was rated fourth best on ground for Barker.

Ralph Harrison and Daniel Gabb rounded out the best six in this match with Ralph’s hard work and long chases of opponents drawing particular praise.

Toby Vaughn gets recognition for coming back from injury, having only played a couple of games this season and getting quite a few touches.

St Aloysius

St Aloysius deserved credit for fighting out this game against Barker and obtaining a goal in the last quarter.

They were unlucky not to score a 2nd goal in the last quarter as well, but the pleasing aspect was that the St Aloysius players never gave in and kept persisting until the final siren.

In this match for St Aloys, Joseph Rasmussen was rated best on ground.

Another player to stand tall was Evan Perkovic, whose improved play on the forward line augers well for future matches.

Will Lohan was gutsy in the midfield, David Childs, Leroy Parks and Luka Vucic also worked hard for St Aloysius.

Trinity vs Cranbrook- Year 7/8

Trinity Grammar

Sebastian Diaz has a basketball background and has found the skills he utilised in basketball have transferred easily over to Australian football.

In basketball- run and carry, ability to spread from the contest and the metres gained all are an indication of how well one is travelling, so too in Australian football, and Diaz has excelled in all these aspects.

Diaz was rated best on ground for Trinity in this match.

Jonathon Hooper with six goals to his name was rated second best on ground for Trinity.

Others to excel for Trinity included Finn Ritchie, who had a huge first quarter that set up the victory, and the captain Bradley Uglow who played a team first role in defence.

Nathanial Davies and Nick Pavic round out the top six for Trinity Grammar.

Cranbrook – Year 7/8

One Cranbrook player who is hanging tough is Zavier Hamilton who has played through an ankle injury and despite this is still impacting on matches.

The two Max’s once again proved strong competitors for Cranbrook.

Max Geddes just shaved Max Whillas for best on ground honours for Cranbrook.

With four quarter footy and with a fitness base to get to many contests, both players have been great contributors for Cranbrook.

Felix Moses kicked the vital goal for Cranbrook and was rated third best on ground.

The most pleasing aspect about Cranbrook’s footy is that many of the players that are new to the game – such as Jack Page and James Andrews – are now beginning to accrue some confidence and play solid footy.

Both were rated in the top six performers for Cranbrook.

Ryan Gwynn and Luke Gazzard showed some good improvement and the more matches they get under their belt the better they will become.

Barker vs St Ignatius 1 – Year 7/8

Approximately half of Barker’s team haven’t played Australian football before this season, so to keep a strong team like St Ignatius to a five goal victory is a huge achievement.

It was pleasing to see that Barker put in a strong last quarter, which resulted in them scoring 26 points in this period.

St Ignatius

Rated best on ground for St Ignatius was Matthew Luvio, who leads the way with his attack on the footy.

Nick Luvio, his brother, took a couple of neat contested marks and was rated third best on ground.

Pierce Roseby drew a response from the crowd when he enacted without doubt the best smother from all of the matches on the day.

It was a courageous smother as the opposition player put full force into his kick before Pierce smothered the ball and the sound of it reverberated around the boundary.

Pierce Roseby was rated second best on ground.

Nick Armstrong is the goal sneak of this team, quick and evasive and he crumbs extremely well.

He is a player to look out for in the coming years for Riverview.

Others to stand out were Tom Van Dongen, who has good evasive skills and took some gutsy marks, and Robert Warner.

Kristian Parker, in his first year of playing football, is coming along strongly and should develop well with the more matches he gets under his belt.

Barker

Oscar Bird is a brilliant kick.

The ability to kick well over a range of distances and his relaxed kicking style (the AFL equivalent being Scott Pendlebury) ensures that Oscar stands out as an excellent exponent in this most important attribute of Australian football.

Oscar was rated best on ground for Barker.

Tom Meacham is the Josh “Joey” Kennedy of Barker’s team getting plenty of hard ball gets.

Ryan McCoy and Lachie Basten rounded out the top four for Barker in this match.

Others to shine include Daniel Alleyn, who is a consistently good player, and Ben Nogajski had a solid game in the ruck.

Waverley (77) vs Trinity (24)- Year 9/10

Trinity vs Waverley was a close match in the first half with just under three goals separating the teams at the half-time mark.

Yet, Waverley gained control in the second half on the scoreboard, although Trinity fought it out well across the ground.

Waverley College

Adam Lawther – the defensive assassin – was at it again dominating from centre half-back.

If he was playing in the AFL he would be the equivalent of Harry Taylor due to his ability to effortlessly clear the ball and repel attacks.

Lawther was best on ground for Waverley College.

Liam Hoy, whose first game of Australian football was just three weeks ago, was rated third best on ground.

A player with a background in other footy codes, he is loving the Australian game, and why wouldn’t you when you kick five goals in a match.

He deserves the title of “Mr Natural” as one would never have guessed he is so new to the game.

A special mention for Johnny Pawle, rated second best on ground, who despite his smaller frame goes where angels fear to tread.

He got a heavy bump in this match but was up again contesting seconds later.

It is safe to say he is the ultimate team player, congratulating his mates on good play and offering encouragement to his mates regularly throughout this match.

Jasper Howell deserves a mention, as his enthusiasm for the contest and his willingness to make 2nd and 3rd efforts is impressive.

Thomas Hourne took a couple of nice contested marks in this match as well.

It augers well for Waverley moving forward that they play as a team and have such solid contributors.

Trinity Grammar

Best on ground for Trinity Grammar was Zach Cameron, who played in defence and ensured the majority of the times that he was the first player to the contest.

Others to shine included Jarryd Fernandes, Andrew Stelzer, Jed Keogh and Brad Uglow.

A special note for Bryce Hankey who has played other football codes previously and is new to the game, yet was rated one of the best six players for Trinity Grammar in this match.
