Youth Girls train with the Swans

With the inaugural Youth Girls Nationals only two weeks away, Illawarra and Sydney members of the NSW/ACT team fine tuned their preparations by training with the Sydney Swans at the SCG on Tuesday.

Swans players Nick Malceski, Ed Barlow and Gary Rohan put the girls through their paces by undertaking goal kicking practice before playing a game with the players.

All of the photos from the day can be viewed at AFL (NSW/ACT)’s Facebook page by clicking here.

It was a fantastic opportunity for the girls to hear firsthand what is required to play AFL at the highest level and to learn a few tricks of the trade from the players.

Not only did the girls train with the Swans but they were also given a rare tour of the historic SCG’s training facilities.

The team was taken to the club’s change-room where they admired the names on the lockers of some of the legends of the game including Tony Lockett, Paul Kelly and Bob Skilton.

As part of the tour the girls were taken through the medical room, warm-up area and the ice bath players’ use for recovery.

The Youth Girls NSW/ACT team will continue their preparations for the inaugural Youth Girls Nationals being held in Melbourne from September 7 to 11.
