Kieren’s blog

By Kieren Jack

After a big season, generally I just try and get away with the players. It’s a long year so I’ll get away for a week or two and then come back and see the family for a bit. I might go on a trip away with them.

This year I think a few of the boys have a trip planned to head overseas and it will be Jude Bolton’s last trip away so I’m heading to Bali with them.

I don’t really have a favourite place and I’ve been to a few different places over the last few years.

After the Grand Final last year I did a bit of a holiday around America for about four weeks with a couple of the boys – I went with Dan Hannebery, Josh Kennedy, Craig Bird – we went over there which was good fun after a Premiership.

My off-season is pretty low-key. I’ll probably have three or four weeks off training-wise and then start getting into it again.

You’d be amazing how easy it is to get back into it. To start with you don’t want to think about it, it’s the farthest thing on your mind but after three or four weeks you start getting itchy feet again, you want to get out and feel like you need to as well.

Last year I ran with Tony Armstrong, Tony wanted to get pretty fit and come back into pre-season in good shape so he grabbed me and we started training pretty early.

From that point of view it’s good and I’ll probably start running with my brother (Brandon) a bit earlier, he wants to have a good crack this pre-season so we’ll start getting into it again.

My Mum will certainly be on dog baby-sitting duties, we’ve already spoken about it. Little Nelson, my English bulldog, will spend a bit of time at home with Mum and Dad.

I think and they love him because he’s the closest thing to a grandchild they’ve got at the moment!
