Auskickers live dream Grand Final day

Amaroo’s Shaun Hohnke, Bronte’s Oscar Head and Newington’s Emmalee Beggs had the time of their lives during a weekend of action-packed activity.

All three were chosen to participate in Grand Final day after being nominated as NAB AFL Auskickers of the Year throughout the 2013 season.

Their experience kicked off in style at the NAB AFL Auskicker of the Year Awards Dinner at the MCG.  A memorable moment of the event occurred when Geelong Captain and NAB AFL Auskick ambassador, Joel Selwood, presented each of them with their official NAB AFL Auskicker of the Year nominee playing jumper.

On Friday, they marched alongside fellow Auskickers and the two competing Toyota AFL Grand Final teams through the streets of Melbourne in the traditional Toyota AFL Grand Final Parade.

Grand Final Day was undoubtedly the highlight of the trip when the trio played NAB AFL Auskick on the MCG in front of 100,000 fans prior to the commencement of the big game.

After the match Oscar, Shaun and Emmalee, along with the other NAB AFL Auskicker of the Year nominees, presented the Hawthorn players with their 2013 Toyota AFL Premiership Medals.

Shaun plays with the Gungahlin Jets in the ACT and presented Hawks midfielder Brad Sewell with his second Premiership medal. Oscar is from the East Sydney Bulldogs and presented a medal to Temora’s Luke Breust. Concord GIANTS Auskicker Emmalee Beggs presented Bradley Hill with his first Premiership medal.

“It was so exciting to play in front of so many people on the MCG, and getting to present a premiership medal with all my friends and family watching on TV was really cool too,” Shaun said.

The group’s opportunity to participate in this unforgettable three day Toyota AFL Grand Final experience came to life through NAB’s Auskicker of the Year competition.

This competition exists to reward selected NAB AFL Auskick participants across the country for their teamwork, passion and commitment to the sport.

NAB is dedicated to Footifying Australia and has been genuinely growing the game for the past ten years through support of programs like NAB AFL Auskick. Every year, over 180,000 children participate in NAB AFL Auskick at one of 2,900 centres nationwide.
