GWS junior finals point to a bright future

The GWS talent zone looks to be producing yet another crop of future AFL stars for the competition’s newest club after the GWS Junior Grand Finals took place last Sunday.

Youngsters hoping to one day wear the orange jersey were given a small taste of what their life could be like as a bona fide AFL player when they had the opportunity to play on Skoda Stadium, the GWS GIANTS’ home ground.

The occasion was a major drawcard for fans and spectators, with over 4000 patrons passing through the main gates to witness some high quality junior football.

Aside from the on-field action, the day was also a success because over $400 was raised for Westmead Children’s Hospital, while more than $800 was raised for Community Football via a GIANTS raffle.

In a positive sign for the growing popularity of the club, numerous club memberships were sold, while GIANTS players attended the finals as club ambassadors to support their junior clubs.

Dean Connors, AFL NSW/ACT Manager of the Greater Western Sydney Region said the day was important for the continued growth of AFL in the area.

“It provided a spectacle which will go a long way to retaining players, volunteers and families within the region.”
