All-Australian squad named

Swans co-captains Jarrad McVeigh and Kieren Jack, as well as Josh Kennedy, Dan Hannebery and Nick Malceski, have all been named in the 40-man squad, which was announced by the AFL on Tuesday afternoon.

Young GIANTS forward Jeremy Cameron has also been rewarded for his stellar season and is a chance to become the first GWS GIANTS player to make the side in just his second season.

Cameron booted 62 goals for the year to finish third in the Coleman Medal behind Hawthorn’s Jarryd Roughead and Collingwood’s Travis Cloke. This included a club record seven goals against Collingwood at the MCG.

This year’s All-Australian nomination is the first for Cameron, McVeigh and Hannebery, while Malceski (2007, 2010) and Jack (2012) have previously been named in All-Australian extended squads.

Kennedy is the only Swans player selected this year that has been selected in the final All-Australian team (2012), and will be looking to make the team for the second consecutive season.

The Swans boast the equal most players named in this year’s extended squad, with fellow top-four sides Hawthorn, Geelong and Fremantle also with five players named in 40-man squad.

McVeigh and Jack are the sole NSW representatives in the side, with both hailing from the Pennant Hills Demons in Sydney.

The final team will be announced in Melbourne on Monday September 16.
