Legends return to Canberra

Held at Gandel Hall at the National Gallery of Australia on Friday August 9, the Legends Lunch is an opportunity for the club’s loyal fan base in the nation’s capital to connect with the club.

This year, former Swans co-captain Craig Bolton will return to his hometown for the event, as well 2005 premiership winning team mate Tadhg Kennelly, who said he is looking forward to catching up with the Swans’ Canberra fans.

“I remember going down to Canberra in my first year and it was a pre-season game against the Western Bulldogs back in 1999,” Kennelly told sydneyswans.com.au.

“We’ve played lots of football in Canberra and we’ve certainly got some great support down there.”

Despite Canberra now being listed in the GWS zone, Kennelly said he was certain the support for the red and white was still as strong as ever in the nation’s capital.

“When we won the premiership in ’05 we took the cup down to the Canberra region and the Wagga region as well, and we had a huge reception,” he said,

“Obviously GWS are now trying to step into that market, but we still certainly have some strong Sydney support down in Canberra.

“I have no doubt there certainly are still a number of loyal supporters there.”

The former Swan has his own connection to Canberra, with his wife Nicole’s family hailing from the city, but Kennelly said he was confident his fellow guest speaker Craig Bolton was still Canberra’s number one Swan.

“Bolts obviously loves Canberra and thinks that it’s ‘God’s Country’ and is talking about how good it is down there all the time,” he said.

“He is a great ambassador for the city and has obviously done very well after football.”

Kennelly and Bolton will be joined by Swans CEO Andrew Ireland at the Legends Lunch and attendees will also be given a very special insight into the club from outgoing Chairman Richard Colless.

Tickets to the event include a two course lunch, beer, wine and soft drinks.
