A Swan in the making

Oscar was the Round 4 nomination for 2013 Auskicker of the Year, which means that he will be heading to the 2013 Toyota AFL Grand Final to play in the pre-match NAB AFL Auskick game and present a Premiership medal after the match.

Oscar plays for the East Sydney Bulldogs club, which is based at Trumper Park in Paddington, and is one of the state’s largest Auskick centres. The club, which had just 33 Auskick players in 2005, is having its biggest year ever, with more than 150 signed up for the 2013 season, and a waiting list for even more eager players.

Not only did Oscar get to play on the hallowed turf of the SCG on Friday night, but he was interviewed by Geelong great Cameron Ling who wasn’t able to convince Oscar to switch his allegiance from the Swans to the Cats.

Oscar said his favourite Swans player was Lewis Jetta, because he could “run fast and dodge the other players and kick goals.”

Each year NAB and the AFL search for the Auskicker who best demonstrates the spirit of the game – dedication, enthusiasm, teamwork and passion.

Twenty-two nominees for the award are chosen throughout the AFL season to receive a money-can’t-buy Toyota AFL Grand Final experience in Melbourne. Plus the overall winner will receive $5000 in a NAB Smart Junior Saver Account and AFL star Joel Selwood as a footy mentor.

Why should Oscar be the 2013 NAB AFL Auskicker of the Year?
Oscar demonstrates a passion and commitment to his weekly team training, his weekly game and perfecting his skills at home with his Dad and little brother.  He is a great team player, and shows great enthusiasm to learn more about the game and his beloved Swannies. His coach would agree he gives 110% each week, by listening, learning and developing.  He shows great leadership qualities too.
