SUANFC Announce Daniel Gilmore as Senior Coach

Joining the Club in 2012 in the role of SUANFC High Performance Manager, Gilmore was charged with further developing the Club’s High Performance Program (HP) Program. Over a period of just nine months, working closely with the world class team at SUSF, Gilmore successfully expanded the HP Program to allow for a group of 40 Elite and Talented Athletes, while at the same time, he has assisted the Club build a meaningful relationship with NSW AFL stakeholders.

Club President, Chas Wilkinson said, “At the commencement of the 2012 season, the Club understood it needed to inject a significant resource and find the right person to build our high performance area, not only such we could develop players to the requisite level for the NEAFL, but also such we could aim at becoming a player development partner to the AFL.”

“We took big strides in the right direction in 2012, and under Daniel’s guidance, we’ll look to build on these improvements in 2013. We aim at success and expect to bring and maintain a winning culture to the NEAFL side, and indeed across the Club,” Wilkinson said.

A former Fremantle Docker, Gilmore brings seven years of AFL playing experience, as well as his time in the WAFL, where he is a dual premiership player. Gilmore also brings strong coaching experience, having held supporting and development roles at both the South Fremantle Football Club and SUANFC.

SUSF High Performance Manager, Matthew Phelps is also delighted with the retention of Gilmore. “SUSF is extremely excited to have someone of Daniel’s experience and quality leading the club into our 2nd year of NEAFL. We always aspire to recruit, develop and retain the best talent and in Daniel we believe our program is in great hands.”

Given both his playing and coaching experience and success, Gilmore presented as a strong applicant amongst a list of very talented and experienced coaches.

Gilmore said, “I am incredibly pleased to be announced as the Head Coach of SUANFC. Having studied all the way through my football playing career, I am now on the other end of that degree in the workforce, allowing me to identify with the challenges facing our players through their football, education and working careers.

Sydney University, SUSF and the Club present an environment that cannot be matched in any other national second tier state based competition Australia wide and I am driven by the challenge of continuing to produce this environment of excellence; this is my primary purpose in 2013 and 2014 and I look forward to being judged on my results.”
