Independent Schools boys back at it

The Boys Independent Schools Competition returns this weekend and, after years of continued growth and improved quality, the season is shaping to be even more competitive, with rivalries emerging, superstars in waiting and stories unfolding each week.

Newington College will be looking to go back-to-back in 2024 following its commanding premiership win in 2023, defeating defending champions St Ignatius Riverview.

But there is a raft of teams capable of unseating the Newingtonians and the force of Riverview including St Augustine’s College. The boys from Brooky excelled in the Division 1 Year 9/10 in 2023 and the plucky cohort will be looking to ruffle some feathers.

In a sign of depth across the competition, an Opens Division 3 will be contested for the first time.

In 2024, the Independent Schools Boys Competition will be run across Term 2 and Term 3, with 15 schools fielding 68 teams between them.

A double-header kickstarts the season on Friday, 3 May at Bat and Ball Oval with Waverley and St Ignatius doing battle in two matches, Year 9/10 Division 1 and Opens Division 1.

Good luck to everyone playing in 2024!
