Australian Country Football Champs

The first day of the 2012 Australian Country Football Championships kicks off with with a State of Origin clash between Queensland and NSW/ACT at McPherson Oval at noon, while in the same timeslot Victoria 1 will take on South Australia at Maher Oval. Following these matches, NSW/ACT will back up and take on the Victoria 2 side, while Victoria face the extremely well travelled Western Australian team – whose selection carnival was played only days prior to their departure for Wagga.

The South Australians will be back in action later this afternoon when they take on Western Australia in the 2:30pm game at Maher Oval, but will back up to take on a fresh NSW/ACT side in the final game for the day at 3:45pm. After a delayed arrival yesterday, the SA team will be hoping their limited settling in time will be enough, with a tough schedule of play in the opening round.

NSW/ACT will be looking to find some form this year, after a disappointing run of losses in the recent past. Meanwhile, defending premiers Victoria may find their toughest opponent will come from close to home, with the Victoria 2 team fielding an extremely competitive side.
