Kennelly to play for Albury Tigers

Former Sydney Swans champion Tadhg Kennelly is the most recent AFL star to sign with a country football club, confirming he will appear for the Albury Tigers in the Ovens and Murray league this season.

Tadhg Kennelly joins former AFL players Barry Hall and Brendan Fevola who also signed to Ovens and Murray clubs this year.

Kennelly, 30, will first don the Tigers’ jumper in their Round 14 clash on July 28 against Lavington, another highly fancied team in the league. Contrary to earlier reports, he is unlikely to play the five remaining matches of their season.

Albury are seeking a fourth consecutive premiership, and will be hoping that Kennelly’s class will benefit their fortunes.

The Tigers currently sit second on the 10-team ladder, half a game behind Yarrawonga.

Kennelly played 197 matches for Sydney between 2001 and 2011 and was the first Irishman to win an AFL premiership when the Swans clinched the 2005 title. He currently coaches the NSW/ACT under-16 RAMS side in addition to a coaching and mentoring position with the AIS/AFL program.
