Summary

Newcastle City is the team to beat in the Black Diamond Cup… and no side has managed to do it thus far. Cardiff is the most likely challenger but its single loss for the season was at the hands of Newcastle, when it defeated the Hawks by 65 points in Round 1.

The surprise packet for the 2022 season has been the Singleton Roosters which is holding down fourth position with four wins and three losses. The club has moved up from the Black Diamond Plate competition and despite a number of COVID and injury disruptions, it has established a competitive team. Should the Roosters dare to dream of playing finals football!?

It’ll be a tight race to the finals, with positions three to six a lottery!

Summary

Killarney Vale is setting the pace with an undefeated start to the season. Its impressive start includes its first win over Central Coast rival, Terrigal, since 2010. It has also scored two strong victories over second placed Cardiff, the Hawks’ only two losses to date.

Cardiff’s strong form has been a little unexpected, having only lost to the ladder leader and defeating pre-season favourites Terrigal and Newcastle City. Let’s see if the team can hold its nerve as we come to the pointy end of the season.

Maitland and Singleton have had a tough start to the year due to some significant injuries. And although they’ve struggled to match the top sides, each of them have enjoyed one win: Maitland thrashed Singleton in Round 2, Singleton thrashed Maitland in Round 9. They next meet in Round 16. Keep your eyes out!
