Canberra women think pink

AFL NSW/ACT are proud to support the Pink Footy Day run by the Gungahlin Jets and ANU women’s football teams happening this Sunday at South Oval on the ANU Campus.

Raising money for the Breast Cancer Network Australia, the teams will turn their fixture pink to show their support for the cause. In a first for the Jets, the team will be playing in a pink strip, while ANU will continue their tradition of wearing pink armbands.

Federal Minister for Sport Kate Lundy will be attendance alongside ACT Minister for Sport, Tourism and Recreation Andrew Barr to officially endorse the event. Ms Lundy will toss the coin at the beginning of the match.

The GWS GIANTS will also be in attendence and welcome all fans to come down and meet the players, enjoy the kids’ fan zone and experience an AFL Super Clinic on the field from 10am-11am.

Gungahlin Jets Manager Lisa Murphy says it’s an important cause for the club.

"The Gungahlin Jets Football Club has women across all aspects of the club – from our fan base of mums, grandmothers, daughters, sisters and aunts, to umpires, officials and support staff, to players, committee members and our tireless and passionate volunteers," she said.

"On this day, we acknowledge and pay tribute to all those affected by Breast Cancer."
