A big night for footy at the CBR Sport Awards
Weston Creek Wildcats’ President, Trudi Fajri, has been recognised at the CBR Sport Awards, receiving an ACT Outstanding Service to Sport Award.
Trudi’s dedication to the club is unsurpassed. In 2021 alone, she organised for Weston Creek to acknowledge Anzac Day and Sir Doug Nicholls Round with commemorative guernseys for her teams and arranged appropriate cultural celebration at each round.
She has tirelessly sought sponsorship for the club to help provide balls, equipment, uniforms and a fun game day experience for the youngest age groups right up to the top aged U15s.
When sponsorship dollars couldn’t provide all the Wildcats required, Trudi sought funding from other sources. She successfully secured funds from the Toyota Good For Footy Grant, which allowed the club to fit out the U14 Youth Girls with brand new guernseys and shorts.
Trudi’s dedication to AFL and Canberra sport goes beyond Weston Creek. She often engages other clubs create opportunities and plans for improvements benefitting players and community clubs.
One of the initiatives the club has taken under Trudi’s leadership is to stop using single use plastics. Trudi engaged local media to support this and spread the word about the importance of change at community level.
Firas Shahin, ACT Community Football Manager for AFL NSW/ACT, said Trudi Fajri has been an invaluable contributor to the competition. “Trudi has been an outstanding volunteer within the AFL Canberra community,” Shahin said. “Trudi’s passion for the Weston Creek Wildcats is always on show and I’m glad to see she’s been formally recognised at such a high level.
“Like many volunteers in the territory, Trudi works tirelessly for her club on top of a full-time job and the work that she does with Weston Creek makes it one of the best junior clubs in Canberra. All junior clubs appreciate Trudi’s work for her club and the community.”

Tom Green narrowly misses the rising star award
The GIANTS’ Tom Green, formerly of Eastlake/Marist College, managed 18 matches in 2021, proving himself as the outstanding midfielder we expected him to be.
Green averaged 19.9 disposals in 2021 and kicked seven goals, he had 25 touches in five matches, with his breakout performance coming against West Coast, where he slotted two goals to go with his seven marks and 27 possessions.
Tom Green took out the GIANTS’ Rising Star Award and was second in the competition-wide NAB AFL Rising Star behind Melbourne’s Luke Jackson.
However, all this was not good enough to claim the Rising Star award at the CBR Sport Awards, with the gong going to the brilliant basketballer, Jade Melbourne.
