After hanging up the boots in 2009, two-time premiership captain of Geelong, Tom Harley, started playing AFL 9s to keep fit and he thoroughly enjoys being part of a team again.

“There are so many benefits of getting involved in team sports,” Harley said.

“It has been proven that team sports can bring positive aspects to your exercise routine that simply can’t be achieved on your own.

“Just about every one of us has some sort of competitive streak and competition is one of the best ways to squeeze out a person’s absolute best effort at any given task.

“AFL 9s is the perfect team sport to play as it is social, fun and it can be a great workout.”

AFL 9s is a great game for people new to the sport to learn the skills and rules, those wanting to have fun and get fit and players looking to refine their skills over the off-season.

The traditional AFL rules have been modified to make the game safe, fast and exciting and there will be mixed, female and male competitions to suit people of all ages and skill levels.

Some of the rules include: AFL 9s is non contact; tags are worn by all players to substitute a tackle, matches are played on smaller fields broken into three zones (forwards, midfielders, defenders) with three players per zone (nine per team), only forwards can score goals and the mixed competitions must have at least three female players.

AFL 9s is a great way to have fun, meet new friends and to be active over summer. Don’t miss out. Register a team at www.afl9s.com.au.
