CHAMPIONSHIPS: Rams finish fast against the NT

The Under-16 AFL NSW/ACT Rams have continued their winning streak in the 2019 NAB AFL Under-16 Championships on the Gold Coast.

Facing the Northern Territory at Metricon Stadium, the Rams were pushed by their opponents, right from the get-go. The Northern Territory were up at quarter-time, though Turvey Park’s Patrick Voss kept the Rams in it with two goals to his name.

Wagga Wagga’s Kai Watts, Lavington’s Euriah Hollard and Sydney’s Matthew McKenzie all hit the scoreboard in the second, while Voss continued his patch of form, slotting another two as the Rams started to gain momentum before the main break.

Up by 25 points at half-time, the Rams were in a good position to keep going, however the Northern Territory would challenge them in the third. The Top-Enders added seven goals to their half-time score, while the Rams only managed three, seeing just the one-point separating the two at three-quarter time.

In the end, the Rams would run away with victory despite a tight tussle in the final term. Seventeen-point winners, the Rams had proven too strong for their opponents.

Both Voss and Watts continued their form from Round One of the Championships, providing strong targets up forward and plenty of action around the ball and through the midfield.

Queanbeyan’s Josh Fahey provided good run and carry out of defence alongside Sydney’s Liam Puncher who kept his opponent quiet all day, each playing their role in the team.

Northern Territory – 10.5.65

Rams goals – Voss 4, Watts 2, Hollard 2, McKenzie 2, Stening, Sexton

Rams best – Watts, Stening, Voss, Sexton, Mckenzie, Fahey
