Tully and Tuggeranong up for CBR Sports Awards

GWS GIANTS AFL Women’s player, Britt Tully has been nominated for the People’s Sporting Champion Award at the Canberra Sports Awards, which are set to be announced on December 1, 2017.

Playing in the local AFL Canberra competition with the Gungahlin Jets, Tully had a standout debut season in the AFLW.

Ranking third in the inaugural GWS GIANTS AFLW Gabrielle Trainor Medal for their Best and Fairest player, Tully also took home the Coaches Award on the same evening.

The hardened midfielder is no stranger to awards, having also been named back-to-back AFL Canberra Women’s Best and Fairest Player in 2016 and 2017.

Tully will come up against the likes of inspiring Rugby Union player, Christian Lealiifano and NBA superstar, Patty Mills.

Joining Tully on the Canberra Sports Awards list of nominees is the Tuggeranong Football Club, who has been nominated for the Minister’s Award for Inclusion.

The Bulldogs are proud to offer footy scholarships to local kids, enabling some who may otherwise be unable to play, the chance to get involved.

Having won the 2017 AFL Canberra Club of the Year earlier in 2017, the nomination caps off what has been a stellar year for the club.

Selection Committee Chair and legendary marathon runner, Robert de Castella said he is proud of every one of the nominees.

“It makes me proud as a Canberran to see the incredible talent and diversity of our athletes and our teams, and the great impact they’re having across the community,” said de Castella.

“There’s such a depth of contributors to sport in the ACT – you don’t need to be starring on the back page of the paper – and this is a great way for us to acknowledge and recognise those contributions, in the Awards and in the Hall of Fame.”

The category winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the National Arboretum on December 1, 2017.

AFL NSW/ACT congratulates both Tully and the Bulldogs on their nominations.
