Clash of the NEAFL conferences

Round 13 for the Eastern Conference is shaping up to be one of the most interesting of the year.

This week all four games will be played on Saturday. There will be two games held in Canberra, one at Ainslie and one at Manuka, with both teams playing rivals from Queensland. There is also two games being played in Sydney.

Last year’s AFL Canberra premiers, Ainslie, will be hosting Gold Coast powerhouse the Southport Sharks. This game provides a great chance for Ainslie to secure their second place on the ladder as Southport currently sit last in the Northern Conference. This is no guarantee though as Southport is a club with a proud history and will undoubtedly be looking to turn their season around.

The other game in Canberra will be between Eastlake and Broadbeach. This will no doubt be a really close game with both teams looking to stay in touch with the top four, in their respective conferences, by winning this weekend.

The last time Eastlake played a northern conference team was against Morningside in round three and it was only in the last quarter when Morningside ran away with the win. The Demons will surely be confident about getting the four points after comfortably beating Belconnen before their bye last weekend.

The first game in Sydney is between the Sydney Swans and the Queanbeyan Tigers. This will be the second time in three weeks these two sides have played each other.

In their last game the contest was very even until the final quarter when the Swans were able to continue their frantic pace and run away with the game.

The second game in Sydney will see Belconnen take on the GIANTS. Both teams are in need of a win after big loses last week. A win for the GIANTS will keep them in the hunt for a second place finish while it is a must win for Belconnen if they wish to keep their slim finals chances alive.
