Hornsby’s state of origin match
Hornsby Berowra Juniors and Victorian club, the Wantirna South Devils, took part in an inaugural state of origin AFL match over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
The visitors arrived at Rofe Park, home of the Hornsby Berowra Eagles, after a road trip from their home ground in the Ferntree Gully area of Victoria on Saturday morning.
After a quick trip around the city which included a walk over the harbour bridge and a ferry trip to Manly, the visitors took on a combined Under-13/14 side in the first annual challenge game between the two clubs.
The game culminated in a euphoric win for the visitors who pulled away in the second half, taking advantage of some typical Victorian weather conditions.
Hornsby Berowra Eagles Club President, Mark Smith was very happy with the weekend despite the loss.
“This was a great weekend and the beginning of a special and long-term relationship between our two clubs,” Smith said.
“Our players have made some new friends and as clubs we have formed a bond we hope to strengthen in the years to come.”
The Eagles and the Devils went on to enjoy a celebratory dinner held at the Asquith Bowling & Recreation Club and on Sunday were lucky enough to see the Sydney Swans vs Richmond game at the SCG before returning home.
