Bid for a signed Sherrin

AFL supporters will now be able to bid and buy a game day football signed by their winning team, with every dollar going to support men’s health and raise awareness.

AFL Chief Executive Officer Andrew Demetrou today said the Balls4Life program will begin for this Friday night’s blockbuster clash between Geelong and Collingwood, to be played at the MCG.

Balls4Life will auction the match ball, signed by the winning team, at www.balls4life.com.au and all proceeds will go to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

Mr Demetriou said the program will then continue through the remainder of the 2011 season, allowing fans to bid for a match-day ball from their team, should they win on the day.

“Balls4Life aims to change the attitude of Australian men to improve early detection of illness,” Mr Demetriou said.

Balls4Life founding director Scott Matthews said, “Men too often put the health of others before themselves. Balls4Life has been created to turn that thinking around.”

Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia CEO, Dr Anthony Lowe said, “The Balls4Life Foundation and the AFL are to be congratulated for recognising prostate cancer as an important men’s health issue, and for creating the this initiative.

“Thank you to all involved in Balls4Life, and we look forward to many Australians getting involved and bidding on a match ball,” said Dr Lowe.
