Central West to welcome GWS GIANTS

By Bronte Kerr

The 2015 Community camp will see running half back Tim Golds and experienced on-baller Dylan Addison out and about the Central West Region on the 16th and 17th of February.

The players will be visiting local schools in addition to running super clinics, offering a unique opportunity for kids to rub shoulders with the experts themselves.

The super clinics will see a raft of primary schools in the region getting involved, in addition to local clubs who will be looking to grow their numbers ahead of the 2015 season.

While this will be the GIANTS’ fourth Australia Post Community Camp, AFL NSW Regional Coordinator Matthew Johnson has reiterated this year the Giants are looking to step up to another level.

“In the past, it’s been really school dominated,” Johnson said.

“This year we are really looking to put the central west on the map.

“The game of AFL is growing all the time, we really want to strengthen the link between our Sydney based clubs and the Central West region.”

Golds and Rehab and Development Coach Nick Walsh will travel to Bathurst to visit the country’s most iconic motor racing strip, Mount Panorama, before a tour of the National Motor Racing Museum.

The camp will also see Addison and development coach Sam Reid visit the infamous Old Dubbo Gaol, followed by a food and wine tour around Orange, something Matthew Johnson thinks will help gain the traction with locals.

“This year we are looking to use the profile surrounding iconic venues such as Mount Panorama to promote AFL in the region to a broader audience.”

The camp, specifically the super clinics, are designed in a way that allows passionate AFL supporters, young and old, to inject themselves into local clubs from the region.

“Volunteers are the backbone of the AFL. The AFL super clinics are not only designed for kids but for adults as well.”

If you’re in the region and you’d like to kick the footy with the GIANTS and snag an autograph, come along to one of the following super clinics.
