Inter School competitions run for a minimum of six weeks (length is dependent on zone). The program is delivered by both AFL(NSW/ACT) staff and teachers from the schools. Students learn the skills and activities of the game before participating in a competition of their own. This program is generally run in sport time at location sporting grounds.
Target Age
It is recommended that girls and boys compete in Inter School competitions at the following age groups:
• Under 14
• Under 16
• Under 18
Youth Girls Competition
2010 will see the introduction of a Youth Girls schools competition in Term 1. Team will be accepted from an Under 14 and Under 16 age group. For more information please contact Brett Somerville on the details provided at the start of this booklet.
Support from the AFL(NSW/ACT)
The AFL(NSW/ACT) are able to provide the following support to interschool competitions:
• Arrange ground hire
• Assist in the provision of umpires
• Additional benefits to participants, teachers and schools as outlined on this page
• Provision of equipment required to complete the competition
School Requirements
Interschool competitions are staffed by the AFL(NSW/ACT) and teachers. Teacher commitments include:
• Assistance with supervision of students
• Assistance with the circulation and collation of registration forms
• Set up of grounds
• Umpiring of games one appropriately trained
