The annual AFL NSW/ACT Uniform and Equipment Drive is upon us with clubs being asked to donate their older uniforms and footy equipment to developing AFL nations.

Tying in perfectly with the end-of-season club spring clean, all AFL NSW/ACT community clubs are encouraged to send in their pre-loved footy goods for the future enjoyment of growing AFL communities in the Pacific Islands including those in Papua New Guinea, Nauru, Tonga, Fiji and Samoa.

Australian Football has long been celebrated as ‘Australia’s game’, however the fast-paced team sport is now being adopted by the vibrant communities abroad. The game is seeing a surge of popularity in this region with men, women and children alike, coming together to form teams of dedicated footy fans.

Despite their passion to play and thrive within the sport, these nations are in need of gear and equipment to kick-start their football dreams. Due to the lack of football uniforms and equipment currently available to these new Australian Footballing communities, some players have never owned a pair of footy boots or footy shorts, and play in bare feet and board shorts.

Equipment such as tackle bags, hit shields, AFL coaching boards, AFL flags, rebound nets, ball bags, strapping tape and field markers are especially high on the list of wanted items so that these developing AFL communities can train to the best of their ability.

If your club has any uniforms, boots or equipment still in wearable and useable condition, AFL NSW/ACT is happy to donate them on your behalf.

Just drop off your donated items at your local club throughout September and your club will then send the goods to AFL NSW/ACT offices, where they will be distributed across the Pacific.

AFL NSW/ACT Community Football Support Manager , Jacinta Houston encourages clubs and members to support the donations drive.

“It is a great way to bring life back to those old footy boots and guernseys in the spirit of the code, to help share the love of the game.” she said.

The 2019 AFL NSW/ACT Uniform and Equipment Drive will run from August 26 through to September 30, 2019.

We encourage all AFL NSW/ACT community clubs to get on board and rally their members to contribute, and then send the goods to: Leah Fitzgerald – AFL, Level One, 220 Bent Street, MOORE PARK NSW 2021.
