Young Pittwater Tiger makes his mark

The Tibetan youngster, who represents the Pittwater Tigers, came third in the Sydney Harbour Greater Sydney Junior’s division three U/13s best and fairest award in his first AFL season.

After nominating AFL as his sport of choice, Tenzin capped a stellar debut season with four appearances in division one.

Tenzin was fortunate enough to have his position at the Northern Sydney Scholastic & Sports Academy sponsored by the Pittwater Tigers.

AFL NSW/ACT is a proud partner of Narrabeen Sports High School, and its specialist sports training program for elite athletes.

Sydney/Illawarra region manager Simon Wilson praised the role of Pittwater Council in providing facilities that would enhance the development of young players in the region.

“AFL NSW/ACT and the school have formed a great relationship with Pittwater Council to build a facility that will allow increased interest in AFL and also provide a first class environment for the school to develop their Sporting Academy,” he said.

The program uses a state-of-the-art synthetic playing field and presents an opportunity for young athletes to successfully juggle academic and sporting commitments.

“AFL NSW/ACT is pleased to afford children of diverse backgrounds an opportunity to get involved in AFL,” said Wilson.

“For Tenzin, this is fantastic and to see his efforts acknowledged with this award was very pleasing.”
