TEAM TALK: NEAFL Round 17 – Deledio to Debut
There are two important games involving NSW/ACT sides in the NEAFL this weekend as the finals draw closer and every result counts.
Sydney University host the GWS GIANTS at Blacktown International Sportspark in a crucial game for the Students. The Sydney Swans and the Brisbane Lions are in red-hot form, making every game a must-win for the Students if they want to keep pace.
They have made only one change for this weekend’s clash, welcoming back Alistair Gillespie to the side. Named in the forward-pocket, Gillespie will be looking to add to his seven goals in seven games this season.
Jackson Potter drops out of the side for the Students. The midfielder has played 12 out of 13 games this season, averaging 15 disposals a match.
Meanwhile, the GWS GIANTS are coming off a promising performance against the Swans last weekend. Given the Swans dominance of late, the young GIANTS put in a strong effort that they will be hoping to repeat this weekend.
The experienced Brett Deledio will play his first game for the GIANTS after being recruited from the Richmond Tigers this year. A calf injury has seen him sit out all of 2017 so far, finally making his debut at Blacktown this weekend. Harry Himmelberg also comes into the side in one of nine changes for the GIANTS.
The Sydney Swans host the NT Thunder at the SCG on Saturday afternoon as they look to continue their winning ways. The Swans have a good record at the SCG and with a strong team named they will be hoping to get the better of the Thunder.
The Swans lose Shaun Edwards (injured) in one of five changes to the side that beat the GIANTS last weekend.
The Swans gain the AFL-listed experience of Oliver Florent and Jeremy Laidler for this match too. Both players will be looking for a strong performance after not featuring last weekend.
