Seven a chance at Rookie, Pre-season Drafts

After eight NSW/ACT players were primary listed at Thursday's National Draft, seven youngsters have another chance to fulfill their AFL dream this week.

Half of the 14 NSW/ACT players that attended October’s National or State Draft combines were placed on AFL lists last week – Isaac Heeney, Jack Hiscox, Abe Davis, Jack Steele, Jeremy Finlayson, Logan Austin, and Dougal Howard – with Wednesday’s Rookie and pre-season drafts an opportunity for the remaining seven players to add to what’s already been a record Draft haul for the region.

NSW/ACT Talent and Coaching Manager Darren Denneman is excited by the prospect of more locals taking the next step to elite AFL level.

“I think all seven of our players that attended the State or National Combines are genuine and realistic chances at being selected by AFL clubs in the Rookie and pre-season Drafts,” Denneman said.

“This is an exciting time for talent in NSW/ACT and everyone is looking forward to Wednesday.”

The NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft and NAB AFL Rookie Draft will both be held tomorrow, Wednesday December 3, from 11am as electronic drafts.

All 18 clubs will lodge their selections from their home state or club base, with the AFL Football Operations Department to run the Drafts from the AFL offices.

The AFL has determined that the following selections are eligible to be taken:

Round One
1 – GWS Giants
2 – Carlton
3 – Collingwood
4 – Richmond
5 – Sydney Swans

Round Two
6 – GWS Giants
7 – Carlton
8 – Sydney Swans

Round Three
9 – Carlton

All other clubs submitted a full Primary List.
