New surface for AFL at Narrabeen Academy
AFL NSW/ACT would like to make you aware of an exciting new opportunity for junior AFL players. AFL NSW/ACT has partnered with Narrabeen Sports High School to be a part of their newly established Northern Sydney Scholastic and Sports Academy. We are excited to be one of nine sports on offer to students aspart of the program in 2013.
AFL NSW/ACT would like to encourage local AFL players to consider applying for the Northern Sydney Scholastic and Sports Academy at Narrabeen Sports High School.
The academy aims to attract some of the best sporting talent in the region and, in partnership with AFL NSW/ACT and Pittwater Council, it will soon have first class facilities to cater for their AFL program. In addition to the school’s improved AFL facilities, AFL NSW/ACT will appoint a top-level coach to run the program. This is a great opportunity for young AFL players to develop both their sporting (AFL) and academic talent in a structured high-performance environment.
ln consultation with Pittwater Council, the school will shortly commence works on significant upgrades to both ovals currently located at the school. The main oval, along Pittwater Road, will become multi purpose synthetic surface that will have permanent AFL posts and markings. The oval will be 120 x 90m and suitable for junior AFL games. It will be the first of its kind in NSW/ACT. AFL will have some access to the ground for community use and it is expected that some junior training and games will take place in season 2013 and beyond.
At AFL NSW/ACT we are committed to nurturing the AFL talent in the academy, and through our ongoing involvement with the school we hope to attract players from throughout the Northern Sydney area. The school is renowned for its commitment to the enhanced education of the “whole student” – and focuses on academic as well as athletic outcomes as a measure of success.
We urge all AFL players and their parents to consider Narrabeen Sports High School as a secondary education option. Scholarships are available for Year 7 students enrolling in 2013 who excel at both athletic and academic pursuits. More information is included in with this memo.
Enrolments are currently taking place for the 2013 intake. If you have any questions please contact the school for more details
