Logan to shine at Draft Combine

By Jack McAnespie

As we come towards the business end of the AFL Season, it is time for the top 8 sides to be confirmed, as these sides have the chance to look towards possible September glory in excitement and anticipation.

However, for another group of footballers, this time of year it also filled with nervous excitement.

For the 96 players who will attend and participate in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft Combine, this time of year represents a snippet of what might be in the future, should they successfully navigate the Combine.

This week, the AFL announced the second group of players that will attend the Draft Combine, to be held this year at Etihad Stadium, in October.

The Tall Defenders group was announced on Thursday, a group comprising of 13 budding young talents, including NSW/ACT’s very own Logan Austin.

Logan impressed throughout his NAB AFL Under 18s Championship campaign, swinging from Centre Half Forward, to Centre Half Back, and making an immediate impact.

The Belconnen junior was noted for his excellent closing speed, along with his outstanding ability to take intercept marks under immense pressure throughout the Under 18s Championship.

His decision-making has set him apart from other tall defenders from NSW/ACT, and is the lone Tall Defender representative for his state in this year’s Draft Combine.
