Academy teams named: Women to make history at SCG

The teams have been released for the second round of female Academy Games that will be staged over the next two Saturday’s between the Sydney Swans and the GWS Giants.

In another first for female footy in NSW and ACT, the Open Women will act as a curtain raiser before the highly-anticipated Sydney Derby at the Sydney Cricket Ground on April 9.

The history-making contest will feature the best players from a group of around 200 that have been participating in the AFL NSW/ACT Academy.

The Swans drew first blood in the series kicking three unanswered goals late in the game to steal an eight point victory.

The game will also have an international focus following the selection of two American players.

Katie Klatt from the Sacramento Suns will lace on the boots for GIANTS Academy while Kim Hemenway from the New York Magpies will line up for the Swans Academy.

All competitors are vying for selection in a NSW/ACT representative team that will take on South Australia at Adelaide Oval on June 5.

The bounce of the ball is at 1:40pm giving Swans and Giants fans a footy feast with the Sydney Derby taking place at 4:35pm.
