Two big ins for the Allies ahead of Vic Metro clash

The Allies have bolstered their team for Round 2 of the 2018 NAB AFL Under-18s Championships, with two big AFL NSW/ACT names added to the list of four who played last week.

Selected in the Round 2 Allies side is Eastern Sydney’s Nick Blakey who sat out the Round 1 win against Vic Country with illness.

After an impressive 2018 NAB AFL Academy Series, the Sydney Swans Academy member will want to continue his form in front of the big sticks. Having kicked 18 goals over four games during the Academy Series, Blakey will be looked to as the key forward to assist the likes of the GIANTS Academy’s Kieren Briggs and Tasmania’s Chayce Jones.

Also returning from injury will be Blakey’s fellow NAB AFL Academy teammate, Mathew Walker from the GIANTS Academy.

Coming from the Albury/Murray region, Walker has been playing some solid football in the TAC Cup for the Murray Bushrangers in recent weeks, and will be looked upon to win the contested football through the middle.

Allies Assistant Coach, Lloyd Perris says he is pleased to see two more AFL NSW/ACT players enter the Allies team.

“It’s great to have Nick and Mat come into the side, they’re two NAB AFL Academy boys who will bolster the team,” said Perris.

“Vic Metro look like the team to beat, so it will be a really good test for us.

“We’ll be looking to the four New South Wales and ACT boys who played the last game to continue their good form, and for Kieren Briggs in particular to lead us from the ruck again with his physical presence.”

Round 1 AFL NSW/ACT selections Jacob Koschitzke, James Peatling, Tom Green and Kieren Briggs have also been named to play.

The Allies take on Vic Metro on Saturday, June 16 with the bounce at 11am on the Gold Coast.
