QUIZ: 2019 Community Umpiring Round

The AFL wishes to advise that Round Seven of the 2019 Toyota AFL Premiership Season has been designated to Community Umpiring Week, with the aim of encouraging people from all backgrounds to be involved in umpiring and to increase awareness of umpiring as a sporting choice.

Umpires at all AFL matches this weekend will be led on to the ground by four developing community umpires, giving them a taste of an AFL match day experience and demonstrating the opportunities that are available through umpiring.

The AFL will also lead the celebration by coordinating AFL Umpires to attend community umpiring groups’ training sessions throughout the week.

In addition, the AFL will offer an AFL Umpires’ Coaching Experience by inviting selected community umpires to attend an AFL coaching session facilitated by the AFL Umpire Coaches.

AFL Head of Umpiring, Grant Williams said with the continued growth of Australian Football year on year, the requirement for recruiting more umpires is bigger than ever before.

“Umpiring is an opportunity for everyone to be involved in the game, regardless of their age, gender or culture.

“Community Umpiring Week celebrates the significant role that all umpires throughout the community football level play in Australia’s game, as well as highlighting the many benefits that umpiring has including fitness, employment and great life-skills.

“There are now over 15,000 accredited umpires and we want to ensure these numbers reflect our diverse community. This can be achieved through our many umpiring initiatives including Community Umpiring Week,” Mr. Williams said.
