Allies team announced for Round One of 2018 NAB AFL Under-18s Championships

The Allies team for this weekend’s Round One match of the 2018 NAB AFL Under-18s Championships against Vic Country has been announced.

Four players from the AFL NSW/ACT region have been selected in a team dominated by Tasmanians after their unbeaten run at the recent NAB AFL Academy Series.

AFL Sydney’s Pennant Hills Demons are represented twice within the group, with James Peatling and Kieren Briggs selected to play. Albury’s Jacob Koschitzke will also take the field in Round One alongside Canberra’s Thomas Green.

Initially selected, but left out of the team, the highly regarded Nick Blakey will miss due to illness, but is looking to return for Round Two. Jeromy Lucas was also selected early, however rolled his ankle playing for Xavier College last weekend, and will also sit out Round One. Allies Assistant Coach, Lloyd Perris says it is unfortunate for both to miss Round One, but he is very excited by the group selected.

“Obviously we’re really excited with the four players that are coming in for Round One against Vic Country,” says Perris.

“All four competed really well in the trials and deserve their opportunity in this game.

“In particular, Kieren Briggs – the 19-year-old – has a really strong presence in the ruck and up forward. We’ll look to him to lead the boys from the first bounce.”

Due to recent inclement weather, the match has been moved from Spotless Stadium to Blacktown International Sportspark on Saturday, June 9 at 10.30am.

“We would have loved to have played on such a good ground as an AFL Curtain Raiser, but that’s just the way it is and we will adapt accordingly, and make sure our preparation is perfect.”
