Volunteer Grants now open

The Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs are now calling for applications for the Volunteer Grants program for 2011.

Volunteer Grants 2011 provides financial support to help volunteers with the day to day running of football clubs.

Funding will enable not-for-profit organisations to purchase practical small equipment items such as computers, barbeques and first aid kits to assist volunteers in their work.

Organisations can also apply for a contribution towards reimbursement of fuel costs for volunteers, including transport costs incurred by volunteers with a disability who are unable to drive. Funding will also be available to reduce some of the out-of-pocket expenses incurred during volunteering activities.

Grants will also be available to cover the cost of training courses and background screening checks.

In 2010, AFL clubs across NSW and the ACT received $137,069 worth of grants to help cover the costs of new fridges, new barbeques, PA systems and other such items that will help club volunteers.

All incorporated clubs and leagues are encouraged to apply for this great funding opportunity.
