UTS, Penrith eye first wins of 2012
Just two out of the eleven teams are yet to register a win in a competitive start to the AFL Sydney Women’s competition.
One of those sides is Penrith and they have a chance to reverse the trend at home on Saturday against the Western Wolves. The Ramettes in their inaugural season showed some good signs in their 77 point loss to Macquarie University, with vice-captain Natalie Camilleri leading the way. The Wolves also come off a loss to Sydney University- with a scoreless final quarter cruelling their chances of victory against last year’s Grand-Finalists.
At Trumper Park, UTS will also seek their first win of the 2012 campaign against UNSW Stingrays. The Shamrocks struggled against last year’s premiers, Balmain. UNSW will be a slightly easier proposition, as they lost by 56 points to Wollongong last round. Courtney Gum impressed for the Stingrays with two goals.
Wollongong and Sydney University face off at North Dalton Park. Both sides won last week and will be keen to continue their surge up the ladder.
In other matches, Newtown Breakaways who are coming off the bye will start favourites against Southern Power at Gwawley Oval, while Auburn will need to pay attention to Balmain spearhead, Belinda Pride- who kicked eighteen goals last weekend, in their clash on Sunday at Henson Park.
