Update: School Sport Australia Nationals
Congratulations on NSW U12s, U15s and ACT U12s, U15s and U16s girls who represented the school sport bodies at the School Sport Australia National AFL championships in Adelaide!
NSW PSSA U12s were in Group A with traditional powershouses Victoria, Western Australia and South Australia (invitational team). NSW started the week with a win against South Australia (invitational) but then fell to defeats to Victoria and Western Australia. In their 3rd vs 4th play off game against South Australia, NSW fell short with a loss of 12.6 78 to 1.1 7.
A 4th position was deserving for the NSW team, after some great efforts!
ACT School Sport U12s were in Group B with Northern Territory, South Australia and Queensland. After a close defeat in their first game against Queensland this was followed by a heavy loss against Northern Territory 12.13 87 defeat 2.1 13, ACT bounced back with some solid efforts against Western Australia and South Australia Invitational team.
It was a disappointing carnival for the ACT team as they finished 8th. Victoria U12s went through unbeaten to finish at the top!
NSW CHS U15s were in group B with South Australia, Western Australia and ACT. NSW started off well with a great win against traditional powerhouse Western Australia 11.6 72 def 1.6 12. That was followed by a nail biting 2 point defeat against South Australia.
They bounced back from the heart breaking defeat with a convincing win against arch rivals ACT 16.12 108 def 3.2 20. NSW finished top of their group only to face Victoria metro who finished 2nd in group A.
In a cracking game, inaccurate kicking cost the NSW team in a closely fought encounter 10.9 69 def 6.12 48.
In NSW’s final game, 3rd vs 4th play off, saw them come up against South Australia and went down in another close game 9.9 63 def 6.4 40.
A very successful week for the NSW U15 team finishing 4th against some very tough opposition!
ACT School Sport U15s who were also in group B and started the week with a heavy defeat against and impressive South Australian outfit. This was also followed by another tough loss against experience campaigners Western Australia 12.11 83 def 3.5 23 and then similar defeat to the NSW team. They finished off the competition strongly with a narrow defeat against Queensland then defeating Northern Territory 12.7 79 v 7.6 48.
Victoria Metro finished top with only one defeat on their way to finishing first.
ACT School Sport girls U16s battled bravely throughout the week with close defeats against Northern Territory and South Australia followed by heavy defeats against Western Australia and Victoria.
They finished the competition well with a solid win against an invitational team 10.10 70 def NEMJFA 1.1 7.
Victoria also finished top of the girls, going through the championships unbeaten!
Congratulations once again to these teams who represented NSW/ACT very admirably in Adelaide!
