Under-16 initial state squad announced
The best 38 players from NSW and the ACT have been selected to attend the Under-16 AFL NSW/ACT state talent camp being held from May 12-15 in Sydney.
Please click here for the names of the players selected in the initial 38-player state squad following last month’s Under-16 Joss State Zone Trials.
All 38 players will be been given an opportunity to play in the coveted NAB AFL Under-16 National Championships following their selection to attend the talent camp next week.
At the conclusion of the camp, a 25-player team will be chosen to represent the NSW/ACT Under-16 RAMS.
Selection in the RAMS will provide players with an opportunity to showcase their talents to all 18 club recruiters and various coaches looking on.
The national championships, being held in Sydney from July 9 to 16, has typically been used by AFL clubs as the tournament where they identify players to draft when they turn 18-years-old.
Under-16 RAMS coach and former Geelong captain Tom Harley said selection to attend the talent camp is a fantastic achievement.
“The camp is a great opportunity for the coaches to be exposed to the best 38 players for their age from all corners of NSW and the ACT,” Harley said.
“For the players, this is a chance to work hard and form relationships with each other.
“I’d like to congratulate all of the young men on their selection in the initial squad and I am personally looking forward to working with you.”
Players who missed out on selection should contact their coaches for feedback.
