Team GWS v Knights
Round 8
Team GWS vs Northern Knights
Saturday, May 29
11:00am
Highgate Recreation Reserve, Craigieburn
This weekend Team GWS are on the road again travelling down to Melbourne to take on the seconde placed Northern Knights at Craigieburn.
Facing each other for the second time this season GWS will be looking to make up ground after the Knights smashed the boys in their first TAC Cup game by 94 points at Blacktown Olympic park back in Round Two.
GWS will be looking to capitalise on their recent form, coming off two solid wins in the last couple of rounds.
Head coach, Alan McConnell, believes this is the first opportunity to really benchmark how the boys have improved since the start of the season.
“The round four clash against Ballarat was a turning point for the team. Since then we have really seen game play and training improve significantly over the past month, and we hope it continues to do so.
“This weekend I think it’ll be our start and our structure that are the key factors in how we perform in what will certainly be a hard encounter against one of the competitions front runners.
“It will be important the boys identify their opponents and look to individually beat them in the critical aspects of the game. With Melbourne looking wet this weekend, the fundamentals will be a key factor for whoever wants to come out on top.”
With the inclusion of three debutants this weak, Team GWS will now have played more than 50 players throughout the season.
McConnell said that he hoped Jack Mahoney continues his impressive run off the half back line and is looking forward to seeing James Brain return in the midfield in just his third appearance for the season.
Josh Bruce and Blake Bray have provided strong marking options up forward in recent weeks with seven goals between them in their last encounter against the Jets.
