Sydney University welcomes AFL 9s
Since 1939, students at the University of Sydney have stood faculty against faculty as they temporarily toss their studies aside and compete for the Emily Small Shield.
Despite interfaculty sport’s long and cherished history, 2013 marks the first year that AFL 9s has featured among a line-up of sports that includes cricket, tennis, basketball, netball, football and touch footy.
Next Wednesday’s competition will see undergraduates, postgraduates and staff represent their faculties as they look to crown themselves as the inaugural AFL 9s champions.
In addition to watching the faculties face off, anyone who fancies their chances can compete in a kicking competition held at 1pm to win tickets to the Sydney vs. Hawthorn game at ANZ Stadium on Friday August 30.
Or if you’d rather rest those hamstrings for next year, there will be a BBQ lunch that is available for both players and spectators.
By registering your interest in the sport, you’ll have the chance to win a signed Sydney Swans jumper as well as additional tickets to see Sydney take on Hawthorn.
AFL 9s is a fast, free-flowing game that involves nine players on each team playing on a smaller field. It’s a mixed game with no tackling or bumping, making it suitable for people of any age or skill level.
Date: Wednesday, August 21, 2013
Time: 10am – 3pm.
Location: The Square, University of Sydney.
